Susan Farron Golf | Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays

Season Greetings Everyone,

I hope you enjoy my last newsletter for 2021.

Golf has definitely been a life saver for many of us this year. Thank you to my wonderful clients and friends for your patience, kindness and laughter throughout the year. We have all had moments of joy, despair, frustration and disappointments but the playing of golf has definitely helped us all get through the tough times.

My predictions are for another busy first quarter in 2022 for the golf industry. My final coaching day for the year will be Wednesday 22nd December. If you have any outstanding vouchers yet to be used please let me know so I can assist you in making a booking. I still have a few slots left before Wednesday.

My Summer Golf Schools in January filled extremely quickly and I am looking forward to hosting these in early January at Rydges Formosa Resort. I will also be available for private lessons at Formosa from 3rd January. Please contact me direct.

Hints & Tips

Train Your Golf Brand

Here are some mental skill thoughts which will help improve your next round of golf:

Playing great golf can sometimes mean playing without fear.

What does that mean? Having the courage to stay relaxed balanced and move freely without tension and tightness. Having the courage to be bold, relaxed and fearless when playing over bunkers and over water and gullies. Sometimes even the most simplest chip shot can bring the fear of failure to the forefront.

Try to be carefree. it can sometimes be more liberating than feeling tight and tense. Don't berate yourself for trying to be relaxed and not seeing it work the first time.

Online Video Pick

To raise brave girls, encourage adventure

If you have a young daughter, granddaughter, niece, then I think this video is worth checking out. It is an older video but has some great advice which can be applied to all women no matter what age.

https://www.ted.com/talks/caroline_paul_to_raise_brave_girls_encourage_adventure#t-742292

Gutsy girls skateboard, climb trees, clamber around, fall down, scrape their knees, get right back up -- and grow up to be brave women. Learn how to spark a little productive risk-taking and raise confident girls with stories and advice from firefighter, paraglider and all-around adventurer Caroline Paul.

Improving Your Grip

Keep improving your grip.

A big shout out to all the medical , doctors , nurses who are finding time to play golf from their hectic jobs. What a great way to distress and get a great dose of Vitamin D at the same time.

This tip is dedicated to all those doctors and nurses.

The grip is one of the key fundamentals in golf technique that we often rush through and don't spend time getting correct. Be patient and find the fit...It will feel right when you take the time to know where your Thenar Eminence should go.

Thanks Dr Mee for reminding me where my Thenar Eminence is?

Do you know where your Thenar Eminence is?

It is the fleshy bulgy pad under your thumbs and whether you are right or left handed you should feel your trailing hand( this is the right hand if you are a right handed) Your Thenar Eminence should fit and press over the top of your leading thumb.
Be careful if your hands and fingers are too rigid. Keep them relaxed. If you find it too difficult and experiencing arthritis in your fingers, get arthritic grips put on your clubs. This will make a huge difference to your control and confidence.

Golf Hydration

Is water enough when playing golf in high humidity?

If you have been golfing lately in parts of the upper North Island you would have experienced the intense humidity. Have you noitcied your concentration deteriorate? You maybe experiencing heat exhaustion and mild dehydration. This can affect your concentration and performance and water may not be enough to keep you well hydrated.

I have experienced dehydration first hand on the golf course and sometimes you don't realise it until its too late. If you are feeling thirsty it's usually too late.

Drinking and replenshiing with electrolytes will help you keep alert and functioning better on course. R- Line has been scientifically developed at a leading New Zealand university for active people and athletes of all ages. It has been designed to promote the availability of energy and to prevent or treat mild dehydration that may occur as a result of exercise in extreme heat.

R-Line (Sports Performance Drinks) can be found at most sports outlets and bicycle stores.
