Want to increase your distance while maintaining a balanced follow through?

Well known New Zealand Golf Professional Susan Farron shows you how to maximize your distance by creating the correct foot position at set up

Most golfers point their toes straight ahead limiting the amount of hip turn on the follow through.

On all full swing shots creating maximum torso rotation against a stable lower body on the back swing is ideal.  This is why  keeping the back foot pointing forward is best.

However on the follow through in order to maximise distance the leading hip must rotate fully.  To do this  flare your forward foot approximately 20 degrees .  This will not only assist your hip turn but will increase your hip speed, club head speed and fullness of your follow through.  The results should be shots that produce greater distance and powerful strikes.

While in your address position  make sure your spine angle is slightly tilted behind the ball.  You can check this by making sure your right shoulder is lower than your left shoulder.  By doing this you will maximise with ease the rotation that your torso requires in the backswing.

Check the width of your stance for better balance and a strong set up position.

  • When playing short iron shots  the inside  heels of your golf shoes should be hip width apart.
  • When playing longer irons, hybrids and fairway woods the inside heels of  your golf shoes should be shoulder width apart.
  • When playing the Driver the inside heels of your golf shoes should be just outside shoulder width apart.
