Course Management

Course Management is best described as strategically assessing the elements of the shot and mapping out the appropriate course of action that the golfer needs to take before executing the shot.

Keys to good course management include

1.  assessing the shot at hand including the risks of the shot
2.  assessing the elements such as weather
3.  checking the lie that the ball sits
4.  selecting the club of choice which will best execute the shot
5.  managing the emotional state of mind that you are feeling ie.  confidence level at the time of playing the shot
6.  taking into account the ability of the golfer and the experience needed to execute the shot

First Tee Jitters

Many golfers find the first tee shot the most nerve wracking experience. If you put the first tee shot into perspective, it is just one of many shots that you will have for the day.

Avoid making a big deal of the first tee shot.  It doesn’t define the round that you will have for the day or define you as a person.

If you suffer from first tee jitters try these tips:

checkmark01 Use a club you are comfortable with like a hybrid or 5 wood instead of a driver.  A little distance lost is a lot better than a wayward ball with your driver

checkmark01 Swing at 80% of your total speed

checkmark01 Focus on good balance and smooth tempo

checkmark01 Stay relaxed by taking slow deep breathes and exhaling slowly

checkmark01 Make sure your self talk is positive. What would you say if you were a professional caddy watching your nervous player get ready

checkmark01 If you slice the ball try teeing up on the right hand side of the tee box and aim down the left side of the fairway
